I think I may have to reinstall xp. Have all the discs/codes required my xp
disc does not include SP2. My daughter has the same computer with an xp disc
including SP2. Can I use her xp disc and my code. Will save having to do SP2
update.

Licensing is based on proof of ownership.

You can use any media that you own a license for, preferably using key that
came with your computer for activitation purposes. This is limited though,
if you own an OEM license, you must use OEM media for your key to work. If
you own a Retail license, you must use retail media etc. Also, OEMs may use
PC / model specific media wich may causes other problems when 'borrowing' an
install CD from someone.

In short the answer to your question in your case is likely yes. And if it
doesn't work, you can always re-install with your original CD. :)

- Another thought, you can put XP SP1 on your PC from your original CD to be
safe, then install SP3 afterwards. You can also slipstream a service pack,
but that's a lot of steps for a single install.

If you're going to reinstall XP anyway, do as "Jeremy" said and use your SP1
disk. But first, back up all your data. Use your daughter's computer to
download the .iso image of SP3 from the Microsoft website if your computer
won't boot. Burn the image to disk using ISO Recorder or Image Burn (Google,
these are free) or Nero or Roxio if you have them. Use the SP3 disk you just
created to update your fresh SP1 install before you put on the mainboard
drivers or before you install any other applications. It'll work just fine.
You can slipstream the SP3 disk into your XP SP1 disk later if you ever feel
the need.
