Sending messages from other programs

I just installed Office 2003 and everything is working fine except I cannot
send an e-mail from any other program. (File, Send To, Mail Recipient) The
error message says " couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure. What does
that mean? Did I set something up wrong? I can send and receive mail from
Outlook with no problems.

Make sure that Outlook is 'running' so that it can be 'called' by the other
applications, i.e., minimize it on the machine and then try the mailto
command. If this works, then you may have a corrupted registry key that would
normally call the default mail client (Outlook) on your machine. Does this
occur with all the Office (suite) applications, or just one (e.g., Word, but
not another)? Make sure that Outlook is set as your default email client.

I can't get it to send in any other program, Microsoft or not. I tried to
send an e-card from a picture editing program and it wouldn't let me send it
from there either. And yes, Outlook is up and running when I try to send from
another program.

Go to Internet Explorer. Click Tools|Options|Programs. Make sure Outlook is
showing as your default email client. If this doesn't work, then I tend to
think it's a Registry Key issue.
