Sending Email - sort of "to" names

L

Les

My Outlook Address book is sorted by last name of person, which is the way I
would want it.

However, when I go to write an email, and click on TO, the names there are
sorted by the first name of the person. I have lived with this for a long
time, but I just noticed that a friends Outlook, the names were sorted by
the last name of the person when they clicked on TO.

How do I change the sort?

If Outlook 2003 (you don't mention the version, which is always a problem
for us answering questions), go to Tools->Options->Mail Setup->Email
Accounts->Directories->View/Change and set your order from there.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Les asked:

By the way, I am using Outlook 2000. Milly, thanks for your reply, but I am
unable to do as you suggest since my version of Outlook is apparently
different than 2003. Cannot do Tools->Options->Mail Setup->Email
Accounts->Directories->View/Change and set your order from there.

Hi Les,
If you use Outlook 2000 give this a try:
Tools \ Options \ Preferences \ Contact Options (4th selection from the top)

No. This has no effect on the Outlook Address Book.
Original poster still has not provided sufficient information for an answer.
Not only was version not specified, neither was mail support mode.

Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

Thank you so much for identifying where to make the change so it sorts the
way I want it.

1 thing though - regarding Contact Options, it was the 2nd selection from
the top that I wanted.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!

Just got a snag!

Suggestion worked initially, but the next day when I boot up the computer,
Outlook sorts the old way, by first name, not as I want it.

HELP??
