Sending, but not receiving

M

Michael Edgett

I have just started up a new version of Vista Home Pro and can't seem to
receive e-mail, though I can send it. I am not running any antivirus
programs right now and have removed them from this system until this is
figured out. I have all of the same settings that I've been using on my
Outlook Express system, which works fine. I'm baffled. Any help with this
would be much appreciated !

The error message that I'm receiving is as follows:

Account: 'mail.gemshoppe.com', Server: 'mail.gemshoppe.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR authorization first', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Thanks a bunch in advance !

The mail server is refusing your logon attempt. It doesn't like something
on your settings. Contact them to find out what.

Try this:
Tools, Accounts, select the mail.gemshoppe.com account, Properties,
Servers, uncheck "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

When I try this, I get a Windows security window asking for my login
information. After filling it out and pressing "Enter" the window closes and
then immediately reopens asking for the same information again. That same
information works fine when logging on to my e-mail server manually.
Strange, makes me think that there's some security setting that's preventing
that information from getting to the e-mail server. Thanks for your replies
!

There is a possibility that the account became corrupted while you
still had the antivirus program installed. Delete that mail account,
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.
