Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A)

I get this error message everyday.
" Task 'Ray Roig - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).' "

I am using Outlook 2002 XP. Ver 10.6515.6735 SP3

The only way I can get Outlook to send/recieve is to shot down & restart my
PC. I have disable Norton AntiSpam & it still does not work.
I use Comcast.net for my email. I get email because I can access it via
web-mail. Since my email goes thru Comcast says that they can't help.

I just had the exact same problem and I also have the Norton Antivirus. The
problem is you need to run the live update and if that does not fix it you
will need to reconfigure the firewall in the Norton virus program and you can
call Norton to help you do so and that will fix the problem. Norton tech
support is availible 24/7 amd their phone number is 800-927-3991

Excellent! I've been struggling with this all day, and as soon as I turned
off the firewall, I could send & receive. Happy New Year.

I am having this same trouble but I am not using Norton. I am using McAfee.
I completely uninstalled the virus software, turned off the windows firewall
and I am still having the problem. I am using office. 2003, XP Pro and have
a netgear hardware firewallAny thoughts?

Thanks to you all for the info. nothing helped till I read the last message.
I restored my PC to an earlier time when I did not have a problem, that
was the key for me. Thanks
