Sending A PP Presentation Containing MP3 File

I managed to complete a slideshow presentation containing an MP3 file.
It runs normally on my computer. When I e-mailed the PowerPoint
slideshow to my co-workers through Lotus Notes, they can only run the
presentation. The MP3 doesn't play in the background. Do I need to
e-mail the MP3 file in a separate attachment? Is it possible to embed
the MP3 file with the Powerpoint file? My goal was to allow the users
to watch the presentation seemlessly. I am using the PowerPoint 2002,
Windows 2000 o/s.

MP3's are not embedded. They are linked. You can use WinZip to pack the
two files and send it as an attachment. The end user will need to extract
the files to a folder on their system and run from there.

Sonia is correct - an mp3 is a linked file and must be sent with the
presentation. Your other option is to convert the .mp3 to a .wav file which
can be embedded into a presentation (note: because it is embedded in the
presentation it will also increase your presentation file size). Conversion
is fairly simple and can be completed by a number of programs.

Hi Ken,

As others have indicated, PowerPoint cannot embed sound files unless they
are in the *.WAV file format and, additionally, supporting (or linked)
content for a presentation is not included when you send a presentation via
e-mail.

There are a variety of workarounds including using Pack and Go or Package
for CD (new to PowerPoint 2003) commands to place the presentation in a
shared location accessible to all e-mail recipients and then sending them a
link to the shared location (instead of sending the presentation)

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
the "Send to ->Mail Recipient" command should include option(s) which make
it possible for recipients to see or receive the supporting/linked content,
OR if you feel strongly that the ability to embed other kinds of media
should be a built-in feature in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your
