Send / Receive Not Working

Please help - I have just bought a new laptop with Vista and Windows Mail.

When I first open Mail and hit send / receive It is fine.

But as soon as I write a new mail and press "Send" at the top of the
message, it goes into the Outbox and doesn't send. I can press the "Send /
Receive " button and nothing happens.

If I close Mail and re-open it goes. Can someone suggst a fix?

I have deleted my account and set it up again - but with the same result.

I don't know if this is related, but the Folder list also does not refresh.
So If it shows one unread, it stays saying this even after I have opened the
messsage.

No - nothing yet - I have been up most of the night trying various fixes
suggested on here. Nothing seems to work.

If you get any joy from Microsoft, Please post back here - I have got to go
out today, so any help owuld be gratefully appreciated

if you are using either mcafee or norton, it is likely the problem.
download the respective uninstaller from their web site.
download either avg or avast.
run the uninstaller.
then install either avg or avast.

I have tried www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

i Have now uninstalled norton, although it was never running, but just had
the 90 day trial software on the laptop

And still the problem remains.

My ISP is Orange. Anyone else got any suggestions?

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I wish I had never bought this
damn laptop - what was I thinking buying Vista? Doh!!!!

Off in search of a new e-mail programme. And probably a new Operating System

OK - Here we go - Problem solved (sort of)

I have no idea what the problem was. I tried everything suggested on these
boards. Due to another problem with my laptop, I sent it back and got a brand
new machine, and still had the same problem.

Eventually I downloaded windows Live Mail Desktop, it replaces the useless
Windows Mail and does actually work. In fact it seems quite a good bit of kit.

I know this doesn't help sort out the fault, but at least it now has me up
and running
