send mail not responding

T

thomasr1950

When i try to send an email it will not respond. I can't delte an outgoing
email, it will start receiving but will not send. I have to close out windows
mail all together. I have logged out of sbc yahoo so there is not conflict.
It simply will not respond. I tried to delete all 5 emails that are waiting
to be sent but nothing happens.

If there is an accumulation of messages in the Outbox folder, open
the Outbox folder. Move as many of those messages as you can to
the Drafts folder. If any won't move or can't be deleted,
apply this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Is there an error message? Which antivirus are you running?

-- I d/l'd the plug in, afterwards i deleted one email then it quit
responding again. I'm running Trend Anti-virus, my next step would be to
uninstall/reinstall it & take it from there.
Thanks

Yes, uninstalling Trend Micro antivirus should be the next thing to try.
Another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail. I would not
reinstall Trend Micro unless you switch to Windows Live Mail.
Windows Mail is known to have issues with Trend Micro.

I did a little reserach on my own. I determined the files are too big,
pictures. I still don't know why i can't delete the emails waiting to be
sent. I did install windows live.

rHi I am new and really don't know how to post but I have a question.
When I try to send or receive email in Windows mail or thunderbird neither
one works. I keep getting error on both.
I am using Vista and I use Verizon as my isp.
Error 0X800CCC78

You can't delete the files in the Outbox folder of Windows Mail, or
you can't delete the files in the Outbox folder of Windows Live Mail?
Sometimes it helps to stop your Internet connection first.
What happens when you try? What does the error message say?

Maynie

I only have 2 in my out box that won't send. I am running Symentec. I have
tried to use Thunderbird and now Windows mail and neither one will work

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

We can't do much with just the error number.
Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
The send error message should be different from the receive error message.

You posted this same issue in three different threads!
Please don't do that because it merely dilutes the available responder resources.
I provided a detailed response in the thread "email".

You are using obsolete port settings for those mail servers.
Use the settings currently specified by your ISP:

If you got the same error message, then you did not follow the directions on
that page. For example, your error message says port 25, it should be port 465.
Your error message says no SSL, but SSL should be enabled.

If your latest error message says something different, then you will need to
post it so I can analyze it.

I've gone back twice deleted my account & put in the settings as per AT&T
help pages. As soon as i click delete or send it says not responding. I was
able to delter a couple of emails yesterday that were smaller folders. These
are big 178 pics. I understand if they file is too big to send but i can't
get them to delete. I did disconnect my internet as well. I'm totally lost.
Any other steps i can take?
Thanks for your assistance,
thomasr
