"Send mail" intermittant problem

Normally after I prepare an e-mail and click "Send" it appears in the outbox
and can be sent normally by clicking "Send" Recently, e-mail in the outbox
will not be sent when I click the Send tab. At that time I restart the
computer and whenI return to Windows mail the outgoing message has already
been sent. Anyone know what is going on and if it can be corrected.

That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Ive had a similar problem from the outset with WM (over a year) and still
have not found a solution. My mail won't go whether i click send/recieve or
send all. It only actually goes once I exit mail and reopen the application.
Ive tried it set to send immediately and manually but still get the same
result. I'm a bit concerned about your comment about the interference from a
non compatible anti virus prog. I'm running norton 360 and have tried
disabling firewalls and e mail scanning but with no success.

Norton Antivirus 2008 (and earlier) is among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which cures the problem.

In a worst case scenario, you may have to uninstall Norton, followed by
using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
We can recommend a free replacement antivirus that is more compatible.

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Thanks Gary, i'll try contacting symantec to see if they can shed any light.
as i've tried all the other things suggested apart from upgrading to live mail

You're very welcome.
You can contact Symantec via their online live chat.

Hi Garry just finished with symantec online unfortunately they just tried the
same things i've already done disabling anti virus and turning off the
firewalls. It has to be a problem with WM. I've tried the same excercise with
my isp web mail and it works perfectly even with the firewall and anti virus.
Can you tell me if upgrading to live mail retains all the existing mail i
have already or will i need to back it up.

Yes, upgrading to Windows Live Mail not only does an automatic
import of your WM messages, it also leaves your WM fully intact
so you can always go back to it.
