"Send Immediately when connected" in Outlook XP

If I check the box "Send immediately when connected" it does so. If I am NOT
connected, Outlook dials up when I click "Send"! Is there a way to make
Outlook send immediately WHEN connected, but at the next scheduled "Send and
Receive" when NOT connected?

Thanks

Are our assumptions to be that you use a dial up connection with an
automatic polling interval established?

Outlook cannot detect your connection status. If the above assumption is
correct, you must control what Outlook does manually by using the "Work
Offline" command in the File menu.

yes I do.

Thanks - how exactly does that work? I mean if I put Outlook into offline
mode, what does it then do or not do?

Well I haven't tested it for years, but as I recall, your email will sit in
your Outbox until you set it back to Online. Outlook's behavior was never
really optimized for dial up connections. It's pretty schizophrenic in how
it manages dial up connections and changes with every version.
