Semi-OT: Prince of Persia crashes on startup with X800 Pro

I cannot start Prince of Persia The Sands of Time that came with my X800
Pro. It always crashes with an error and gives me the following messages:
-
POP.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
-
and
-
The game ended unexpectedly.
Please see Readme.txt file for technical support.
-

Has this happened to anybody else? Is there a fix for this? I couldn't find
any patches for this game online.

My system is:
P4C 3,0GHz
2GB of DDR400 RAM
Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro (Omega Catalyst 4.7 drivers)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Windows XP SP1
DirectX 9.0b

I've got a 9800 Pro and I didn't get the same error you did, but a
couple of times when I first got this card I had PoP crash to desktop
and freeze up. I turned off fastwrites in SMARTGART(tm) and stopped
having the problems.

Don't kow if that's any help, but it's all the info I got.

It seemed to be a problem with the copy protection mechanism that my DVD
drive doesn't like at all. Switching the drive for an old 8x CD-ROM worked,
but I'm not ditching DVD drive for that old thing. I was told to use a no-cd
patch, but I can't find it on the game's website. Does anybody know where to
get it?

Try www.gameburnworld.com and look under the 'PC Game fixes'.
