Is it possible to search for the text ".net" in Google?

The following all seem to search for "net", not ".net":

o .net
o ".net"
o \.net
o "\.net"

Google trims out non alpha characters.

Search for (e-mail address removed) and you end up searching for "bob" "here" and "com"
