Selecting Cells

Gary

I am not used to the new excel (or word for that matter), and was fairly
proficient with previous versions.

I have this problem that when I try to select a cell, 3 other cells under
are selected as well. To correct the problem, I go to a "page" below the
one I am working on, select a single cell, and all is good.

Any clue as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Nope.... what is/was f8 supposed to do? If it helps, it seems to be
happening after I put a border around a bunch of unmerged cells.

Hi,

don't know what the problem is but in answer to the F8 question. This
activates Extend Mode in both Word and Excel, pressing it a second time turns
it off. When Extend Mode is on there is an indicator on the Status Bar.
what it does is allow you to select multiple cells without anchoring, for
example with the Shift key. So when you press F8, then start pressing down
arrow you aren't moving through the cells you are selecting them. It has a
similar effect on the mouse. If your cursor was in A1 and you press F8 and
clicked on D10, you would have selected from A1 to D10.

To clear the selection problem try closing and reopening Excel or Word.

Thanks for the explanation, at this point I am unable to replicate the
problem, but will try your suggestion if it re-appears.

Thanks again

Gary
