Select Names dialog hangs after large mailing

Todd Cavallo

I am working with Outlook 2002 on Windows XP with a local
Exchange 2000 server running on a 2000 SBS machine.

I have a number of address books (approaching 100) under
my primary contact list. They are actual full address
books, and not groups, as they are imported from another
program as such. Each list has from 2 to 100 contacts,
and they are all enabled to be shown as email address
books, so that they appear individually in my "Select
Names" dialog when I click on TO: or CC: in a new
message.

All of the lists come up properly when first opening
Outlook, and I am able to use any of them to send out a
large mailing, which goes out fine. The problem is that
when I go to send another mailing, clicking on the TO: or
CC: buttons brings up the dialog, and for a few seconds I
can scroll through the drop-down list of address books,
but then all of Outlook hangs. The cursor, if left over
the lists in the drop-down menu, flashes repeatedly
between the cursor and the hourglass, and stays on the
hourglass if held over any other part of the Outlook
windows.

At this point I need to force quit and restart Outlook.

This is a major problem because many of these mailings
need to be sent out daily. Putting the lists into groups
in my main contacts folder is not an option, as there are
nearly 100 of them, and we get more every day.

I have attempted rebuilding the Outlook profile and my
roaming profile. I have ensured that there are no fax
numbers coming up as default addresses. I have also moved
all of the contacts folders into subdirectories of the
main contacts folder, as they were previously stored
individually in the root of my Outlook profile.

Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.

Where is your PST file located? XP has time out issues
and some times losses the connection. Seems strange, but
can you wait a really long time and will it come back?
Really sounds like an XP time out problem.
