"seeing" Outlook 2007

I'm still in the testing phase of Vista and have run into something I can't
explain with Windows Mail. I installed Outlook 2007 and had no problem
opening the old PST file from the XP version and getting 2007 working
flawlessly in Vista. Then, I opened Windows Mail and imported the messages
from Outlook without a problem. I then imported the contacts--and while I
thought having to go through the whole "export to csv file" etc for two MS
products was more than a little idiotic--again, without a problem but when I
tried to import my mail account settings, I got the prompt that Windows Mail
found no other e-mail programs on my system.

Is there some special trick to this? As amazing as I thought it was that I
had to export contacts from MS Outlook to a csv file to import them to MS
Windows Mail, I find it more amazing that MS Windows Mail's mail account
import function can't "see" MS Outlook 2007.

Am I missing something?

Don't know why you imported anything... you simply could have copied the
entire PST file, for each account, and simply used that as the data file and
then created new accounts that match the old accounts exactly and poof!
You're done!

I bought another SATA hard drive, and left my old XP in place... dual
booted/installed Vista, installed Office 2007, and then simply pointed my new
Vista machine's Outlook installation to the D:\ drive (Old XP) PST file. I
then created my accounts (2 POP3s) and POOF! All done, everything there.

If you still have the old PST files in place... try copying them and then
using that PST file as the default. If you need assistance, giove a hollar,
someone will help.

Can Outlook export its accounts as IAF files? WinMail can import those.

If Outlook can export the mail accounts, I've been unable to find out how to
do it.

If one uses the "File" drop down menu, the options are to "export RSS
feed..." and "export to a file." Selecting the latter--as one does to
export the contacts or calendar--the list contains only the items in the
file folders in "personal folders" so there is no option to find the mail
account files and export them.

If one uses "tools" then "account settings" there is no option to export
them and looking through the various tabs--as I did--hoping to find the
iaf files, again, they simply don't show up and, again, there's no "export"
listed in any of the drop down menus or if one tries right clicking one of
the mail accounts listed.

Perhaps I should have pointed out from the top that I've moved from computer
to computer or hard disk to hard disk using Outlook and/or Outlook Express
several times over the years as I've used Office and OE from their initial
releases so I'm pretty sure I tried everything one would normally do.

In OE you would go to Tools | Accounts to export accounts.
You might want to ask in an Outlook newsgroup.

Tried here when no one there had any idea what it might be. It seems with
all the Vista installs, I must be the only one with this particular problem
so I guess some sort of electronic fluke occurred during my dual boot setup.

Oddly enough, I did come up with a rather lengthy workaround: re-save the
"new" outlook pst file. Re-boot under XP. Open Outlook and import this
added pst file. Export to OE then save the OE files. Close XP and re-boot
Vista. Import the OE files!! God, I just love how much time computers
save us! ;-)
