My father has XP and even though the guest account is turned off and we are behind a firewall with no ports open, his event viewer shows guest logging on and off
I'm also seeing anonymous logon. I want to view his security permission on his drives but the security tab is not there. I cant find any info on getting it back anywhere. any ideas anyone

Hi Mike,

Is the drive you are trying to do this on NTFS? The drive must be NTFS in
order to get the Security Tab.

Thanks,

Mike;
You must be NTFS, not FAT32, see this link:

Not only do you need NTFS, you also have to have XP
Professional not using Simple File Sharing, (or running XP
Home Edition in Safe Mode) to see the Security Tab.

Yes, he has Xp Home
I found the security tab in safe mode. How stupid!

This brings up another question. If the quest account in turned off, how then can I see a logon by the guest account in Event Viewer?

While were at it, how can I see a log on by Anonymous logon when he is not running a web server? I dont even see anonymous when I look through the security tab.

To view logon events, open the Event Viewer in
Administrative Tools, then go to the Security log.

Actually, ignore my original post about going into Event
Viewer, the reason why you are seeing Guest logons/logoffs
in Event Viewer even when the Guest account is turned off
is because of Simple File Sharing. With this initiative,
users always authenticate as the Guest account when
accessing resources and all that.

Also, as about the anonymous thing, in Event Viewer, go to
the Security Log, and click the User tab. Some web servers
may map file access by web surfers through your account.
