Security for two dbs with a linked table

-- I have two separate db's. DB 1 has a table that DB 2 needs to link to.
I created a new workgroup file for DB1 and set up security. Admin and read
only users. I am using a shortcut to access the db and appropriate mdw file.

How do I set up security for DB2 to link to the table in DB1 and tables in
DB2. Some users will have full rights to the table and some will have read
only. I am using a shortcut to access the db and appropriate mdw file.

If I use a shortcut to open DB2 this doesn't prevent a user from opening the
db directly.

I tried the wizard on DB2 but it creates a new workgroup that doesn't have
rights to DB1.

What instructions did you follow to set up the security? It sounds to
me as if you have not done it correctly. The fact that you can open a
"secured" db without using the shortcut, is one clear sign of that.

for db1 I used the security wizard and it is secure. It's the db2 that I'm
not sure how to do the security for. I need to link to a table in db1.
Thanks

Open db1. Close db1 but keep Access open so that you are still joined to
db1's workgroup. Create a new blank database db3 and import the tables from
db2. Re-open db1 and create links to the tables in db3.

What Keith didn't mention, is that once you've created db3 while joined to
the workgroup that secured db1, then proceed to run the security wizard.
Once you're done, then you'd create the links.

Oops, sorry.
