Security applied to backup copy

Having never used Access security features, I backed my DB up to have one
free for tinkering. However, when I used the security wizard, the resulting
security applied to my back up copy. The problem I have is that the admin
user (me) was somehow set up with no password. The other users can get in and
do what's needed, but the admin can't remove the security since he doesn't
like the results. Why did the security apply to my backup? Is there a back
door I can use to get rid of the security or do I need to have a previous
version restored? If I have yesterday's version restored, will the security
alos apply to it?

It likely hasn't applied the security to your backup. Perhaps you are just joined by default to the secure mdw file you created when you ran the wizard.

Open Access and go to Tools, security, workgroup administrator. That'll tell you the mdw you are joined to. Rejoin the system.mdw that ships with Access, and you should be OK.

The wizard likely created a desktop shortcut you can use to launch your secure mdb.

Thanks - I ended up deleting the MDW because other DBs called it - only on
the machine I had created it with. I'm back to no security which is fine for
now. I'll look at it when I have more time - thanks for your help!
