secondary internal hd no longer recognized

I've had 2 Hd's in my pc for the longest time. A few
months ago, my power supply shorted out and it no longer
works. I rebuilt a new pc, using a different case and
parts, however I did reuse my 2nd HD, (I use this hd for
music and photos and other multimedia, etc...) I had no
problem using it and then all of a sudden a couple of days
ago, my pc no longer recognized the HD. I've even taken it
to work and I can't get anything to recognize it. Is there
any way to recover the data from that HD? or am I screwed?
thanks-epi

Sure, there are data recovery services. A friend just sent his dead drive to
Ontrack, it's going to cost $2400 to get the data off.

You could also use a program like Get Data Back. I have used it a few times
and it is great and relatively inexpensive.

Should also add that there are also free programs similar to that. Just do a
Google search.

If the drive spins up, it may be the controller electronics -- if
you have access to another drive of the same size/mfg, you
can try swapping the controller electronics on the drive -- I
know several people that have lucked out that way. If it works,
consider the possibility of a backup to some other media .......... ??
Backups are your friend -- even ones from 6 months ago !!
