secondary 9800

when I have my new ACER wired up and running it states that there are 2
graphics cards wired in. a 9800 and a 9800 secondary. why is this?
I cant run any games at all and very frequently it reboots to a black screen
with green corrupt lines across the bottom. even when it does boot to winXP
home it gives an error stating that it has recovered from a serious hardware
clash and has to run in software mode.
I have tried various drivers off magazines and off the net and even tried
the omega drivers for they have a special driver for the 9800SE. but these
didn't help and if anything made it worse.

I'm at the end of my tether at the moment, a brand new PC (3.2GHz P4 1Gb
ram and 200GB HDD) and it wont play games.

The 9800 has two outputs, a primary and a secondary. It's not two
cards, but two possible "displays". If you only have one monitor hooked
up, then the secondary isn't made use of.
What's happening to you sounds like a hardware failure though. The card
is faulty. Sorry.

The secondary video card device is normal, but it's wise to simply disable
it in system properties as it decreases software confusion in some
instances. Also disable fast-writes as this can also lead to crashes, etc.
These are just simple tips to decrease software glitches, blah.
With each 'different' driver you've installed, I hope you're uninstalling
the previous drivers? If not, download yourself a 'driver-cleaner'. I think
ATI releases one, I'm not sure. Check omega-drivers, I think they might have
something similar.
Problem could also be your ram. If able, do a memory-check. Let us know how
you go.

tried the omega drivers and they had a special driver for the SE but this
crashed the system completely and with no warning signs etc....
I have tried with fast writes on and off both had no real effect.

What about dipping the AGP speed to 4x? I've heard many people suggest that,
and apparently it doesn't change the performance of the card.

As all advice above plus - what card di you upgrade from? Was it NVidia?
Have you removed all traces of NVidia graphics drivers from your PC?

How's your power supply?

This is rare, but do you have Memory Usage set to "System Cache",
CP>System>[Advanced]>[Performance]Settings>]Advanced[, if so set it to
Programs. I don't think this is a problem, this causes file corruption
not on screen corruption.

Do you have another computer to test the card in, that's what I'd do.

Do you have another card to test in your system to see if anything will
work?

did you not even read the other replys ?
i said it's very likley you have a hardware problem, so stop trying to fix
it and get acer to fix it

sorry I agree but Acer say it should be a 9800pro and see the retailer and
the retailer says that it's not their fault see Acer.
