search tool not working in 2007 Outlook

The search tool in my Outlook 2007 abruptly stopped working two days ago, and
I can't seem to fix it. I did everything they said to do in the help menu,
including rebuilding the index, but it still won't work. Any ideas, anyone?

Interesting, this has happened to me also. I noticed more than a few
recent posts. I wonder if Microsoft screwed up the functionality with
its recent software patch? If you figure it out, please let me know.

Jim--

Do you think Microsoft sent the patch in one of the updates it automatically
sends? If that's the case, wouldn't more people be complaining about it? That
said, another complaint came in a few days after mine, so maybe it's
happening all over and not enough people know about this discussion list.

I suppose one of us could invest in actually paying Microsoft for the help
at $49.95 per question (eee gats!), then split the cost? If it's their error,
of course we shouldn't have to pay anything, which could possibly happen.

Let me know your thoughts.

Jim--

Just found this in a separate post from a couple weeks ago from a guy named
David Kirk. Others tried it and said it worked, but I'm a little freaked.
Just search "Outlook 2007 search" on this discussion list, and you'll see the
item that has 14 responses about the matter. Kindly let me know if you test
this out. Here's what he said:

This was the solution for me. Just delete the files as indicated, reboot and
let it start to index all over again:

Delete all files and folders in these directories:

C:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\temp
C:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows

Just a side note: Microsoft NEVER "automatically sends" patches. You MUST
request them. Now, your PC may be set to do that, but it's still a request
from the PC end.

As an MVP, do you know what's happening regarding this problem, or how to
fix it?

Sorry, no, since the searches I've tried have all worked.

Do you know who we who are having this problem can contact at Microsoft? As
it seems fairly widespread, I'd like to know that they at least know about it
and if they can tell us how to fix it.

The info would be greatly appreciated.

Start at http://support.microsoft.com/ . The "Contact Microsoft" phone
numbers are there.
