Search Spammed Up [OT]

John Bailo

My beef is that the major search and find Internet sites ( Yahoo, Google,
Ebay ) have been /gummed up/ by mimics.

For example, search for a car. You will find all kinds of entries for
$0.00 just so the search is always hit by someone searching by price --
even though the actual car may be $20000 or more! Or else go into Ebay
motors. Motors as in /cars/ -- not accessories, not car parts. But in
Motors there are tons of parts, not real cars. This reminds me of
mimicry in animal behavior where a species tries to mimic another to say,
make itself look like a poisonous snake without having to evolve the
energy using poison equipment.

Or in Google. When I search for information I want a web page I can read
that has answers. I don't want a link to a book in amazon. Nor do I want
link to site where I have to register to get the answer ( hint, hint:
'Experts Exchange' ).

Search, sell and auction companies are going to have to get a lot more
sophisticated to weed out the mimics.

Those of us who have brains, Bailo, that would exclude you, ignore those
inducements and rightly categorise them as misleading. Maybe you need
click-aversion therapy. I'd offer you the goatse.cx link but it had a
take-down order applied to it. How about a link to Michael Jackson's right
tit halfway through the superbowl?

Hi John Bailo , You mention Google ,

When I did a vanity search ( i.e. "Jeff Relf" ) ,
Google used to place my web-site dead last .

Now it comes up First !

Did Google start scoring web pages based on Usenet links ?

If so ... Way cool .

Hi John Bailo , You site one of your old messages ,
using one of your numerous handles ,
http://www.talkaboutprogramming.com/group/comp.lang.java.advocacy/messages/193639.html

You're projecting again Bailo ...

You are the one that ,
" tilts at the biggest and most vague of windmills " ,
e.g. Google , Microsoft , and the oil industry .

You are the one who's " life and career "
was screwed up by your ridiculous belief in
miraculous technology and " New Economies " .

You earned just enough from the internet bubble
to accrue unpayable child support and other debts .

You are the one that needs to ,
" wash the piss stains from your bed sheets " .

There's a difference between /tilting/ at windmills and standing around
and watching a building implode on itself.

I just bought a $134 picnic table from Amazon. I'm going to use it
indoors as my computer table and eating table. And it's arriving on
Wednesday. The new Internet economy brings my goods door to door.

I just received a $2200 tax rebate because all my alimony
is tax deductable!!! Divorce rules !!

A picnic table as household furniture? Let me guess...you also sleep on a
mattress on the floor and use folding lawn chairs for your seating
arrangements.

Holy yikes! I did that on "Rich Grise" and got 656 hits! I even
discovered an old geocities site that I'd forgotten completely
about!

Cool!
