Search some character by ADOBE READER

Mike

Hi

I use adobe reader to open some PDF.
When I copy a string containg some German character, like Angstrom
with circle on top of A character, to the search box, I cannot have
the correct word.
Thus I cannot search the right string.
How to solve the problem?

Hello Mike

This may not be the cause, but worth a try: in Adobe Reader, click on
Edit | Preferences, then "Search" in the side menu, and make sure
"Ignore Diacritics and Accents" is NOT checked.

When I get Diacritics, they're hard to ignore; I just pop a couple of
Emetrol tablets and maybe a little Pepto Bismal and everything's fine.

;o)

Merry Christmas all!

It's checked by default. I can find some strings.
If it is not checked, I cannot find any right strings. It gets worse.

Hi Mike

Hmm, that's not right. If it's checked, the search should find the word
both with and without accents -- so for example, if you type "café", it
should find both "cafe" and "café". This may be why you're finding the
search sometimes works.

If it's unchecked, and you type "café" it should find *only* "café" and
the word without an accent would be ignored. As you say with the option
unchecked you can't find any searched strings, I wonder if it's
something to do with the way you're entering the search words.

How exactly are you entering the accented character? Is it possible for
you to point me to an example of a PDF, perhaps online, where this
happens so I can try it out here?

Oh, and Merry Christmas :)

LOL, Elmo. Not being in the US I'm not familiar with those particular
remedies, but I get your drift. Hope you don't need to resort to either
of them during the holiday :)

Have a good one!
