Search Produces a Runtime Error Message

Here is the setup:

WinXP Home SP3 Up to date.

Disk 1
System Drive C (Primary)
Data Drive D (Extended)

Disk 2 Backup Drive F (Primary) 117,232MB Total 54,569 used
It contains, mostly, Acronis .tib files. Some are small but most are 5g's
or larger.

The problem:

When I run XP's Search for all of or part of a file name on F:, I get the
following message.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
The application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

I have done the following:

Ran AVG and found no problems
Ran Chkdsk and found no problems
System Restored but that didn't solve it.

Then I created new folder on F: and copied each of the .tib files, one by
one to it and ran search.

As long as files were small, search worked fine. I then deleted the contents
of the folder and copied the another .tib file to it. When I copied one of
the larger 5g files to the folder and searched it, I got the error message.

Is it a problem for search to handle large Acronis Files?

Can someone please help me find a solution to this?

Thank you very much.
