Search On Start Menu Not Working

When selecting Search off the Start Menu, it comes
up blank and appears to look like Microsoft
Explorer Search Screen.

Folders are not there and no search for files is
there.

Help tells me to change Preferences, but I cannot
find it.

I do not see the Search Companion either.

I cannot search and it is quite annoying.
It happened once before and I cannot remember
how I got it to work.
