Search not working

I must be doing something wrong.
Doing a Search in this newgroup/message box,
with my own name ('billurie' or just 'lurie')
as Sender, I find no matches. Yet a manual scan
certainly shows the several messages I posted
yesterday...... What setting options are
there which I have to learn about?

Where are you searching ... on the data on your own computer stored
there and accessed by a newsreader (e.g. Mozilla or Outlook), or on a
internet-based, e.g. Google. What's wrong depends on what you are doing.

306 hits at Google with seaching just this newsgroups for "billurie or
lurie".

Rob, I have, for years, been in the habit of highlighting
the NEWSGROUP listing on my Netscape Messenger window,
right clicking on it to open a window, and then selecting
"search" by sender, subject, to, etcetera. That always worked
in NC 4.8 .... Doing the same thing in MOZ finds nothing.

Are you telling me that the simple search that worked forever in 4.8,
is not supposed to work in Mozilla? And that I have to go to
an outside agency (GOOGLE) to find messages in our own newsgroup?

No. I was sayingh that in your original post you didn't say much about
what you were using to do a search and whatever is wrong depends on how
you were trying to do a search (What tool, what source of data that's
being searched, etc.). without that information it's impossible to help.

I was suggesting, though, that one use Google for searching this and all
other newsgroups. They hold all postings forever, far as I can tell and
know. Whereas what's available to me in my Mozilla setup is limited to
only recent posts since the news server to which Mozilla is connected
flushes out old posts automatically (LeafNode). I don't have the
resources that Google has (nor do most others), and I find seraching
with Google easier and more productive than other search tools. While I
use and like Mozilla a lot for web and news groups (Mozilla's tabbed web
page views are supurb), I never figured out how to make it's searching
work. Spent 3 minutes with it, gave up, and decided never to go back.
Google searching of newsgroups is so much more effective.

There are some newsgroups dedicated to Mozilla
(netscape.public.mozilla.*) if you wish to get more help from there. I
also noticed that there is an "unofficial" Mozilla help web site
http://mozilla.gunnars.net/ and further documentation is coming out all
the time.
