Search ignores certain file type

First off, this is not the bug where Windows ignores
certain filetypes if you're searching for a word or a
string in a file.

I am attempting to search for a SAS filetype called .foo,
and when I click on the dropdown menu the file type is not
listed.

It is, howerver, associated with the proper application,
and is otherwise recognized properly by Windows XP.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find
where Windows stores this information and add the .foo
filetype to it?

Why does it have to be listed? I'm confused by your post. Simply click start\search\all files and folders and then the name of the file without the extension or use a wildcard like this *.foo and then select "look in" " Local hard drives" and select that. You will notice that the line at the top allows you to add a part of a file name. The entire file name is not needed. Welcome to the eXPeriance. :~)
