Search function in Outlook 2007?

I keep receiving a message bar that tell me that x number of items need to
be indexed (or something like that) when searching for a name in Contacts or
when searching for a phone number in Contacts.

I recently uninstalled Office 2002 and installed Office 2007. My eyes are
getting bleary from reading various MSKB articles re Indexing.

What do I have to do to be able to conduct a simple search of a name or
phone number in Outllok 2007 and get some kind of result?

I should also add that when I click on the message bar "Search results may
be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more
details."

OK. I click there and receive a message that 859 items are 'remaining' in
Personal Folders.

That number doesn't change. I'm open to suggestions. (I was specifically
told not to import my pst file when upgrading and I did not. Outlook 2007
'found' the pst file left over from deinstalling Office 2002.)

While that does bring up a Search Box I still do not see the results I am
looking for.

I did a search for my own phone number using Search in 'Phone number fields
only', entered in two digits from my own phone number and received zero
hits. I have over 500 entires in Outlook and more than 500 phone numbers
listed. The search brough back zero results for a search of two digits of
my own phone number.

Something ain't right.

While I wait for MS to resolve this issue, I'll pass this on ...

Here in Holland mobile telephone numbers begin with 06 and I must have 50 or
so in Contacts.

I just did a CTRL+SHIFT+F to bring up the Search window and did an Advanced
search for 06 in Contacts in Phone fields.

Nothing!

I realize MS will come up with a solution but I find it amazing that a newly
installed Office 2007 (with an outlook.pst from 2002) doesn't give any
results. What is the purpose of beta testing when something as basic as a
Search give problems. This seems like a real basic issue and I find it
amazing that I am having this problem. The only good about this, I see that
I am not alone.

I found a solution (after googling this). If you go to Tools \ Options \
Search \ Search Options and _deselect_ everything (you might have to close
down and reopen Outlook 2007 afterwards), the Search function will work like
a charm.

Search in that case will be slow search though, not Instant Search.

Well, in this case, something, even if slower, is better than nothing.

If you have a solution for me that works, I'd love to hear it. Thanks, DH
