search from address bar using google in ie6

ive found a few pointers for using google as the default search engine
and whilst they work for using google when i press the search button
when searching from the address bar it always defaults to msn

if i goto customize the area in search button google isnt an option. how
is this done properly?

adding to this, have found it can be done using / installing the google
toolbar, id like ti know how to do this without installing this as have
approx 600 users to set it for

"Autosearch settings" button at the bottom of the "Customize search box"

yes, that would be nice - but only MSN is listed in this area on several
different systems running w2k that ive looked at

Sounds like something got "cut", as google is there on a default
install. Perhaps updating to SP1 on IE or a reinstall will put them
back. Also there is a newsgroup that deals with Internet Explorer so
they would have a better idea of what else might be broken. This group
is for the Windows 2000 operating system so you might not get a real
good answer.

i thought that too and have checked it on several default installs on
different system in our organisation and a few of my own but google isnt
there

i found a nice .reg file to update the registry in the end and it now
works fine
