Search Engines

Hi

Can anyone tell me why I seem unable to search the web
from Yahoo.co.uk or Yahoo.com - all a search brings back
is a HTTP 404 error message.

The same thing happens when I use the search button on
IE6 - which uses MSN as its search engine.

Searches appear to work fine from Excite.co.uk and
Lycos.co.uk however and Ask.co.uk.

Any ideas? It is really annoying as I have a personalised
My Yahoo as my homepage.

Please e mail me at irhuckle(remove this bit)@hotmail.com

Thanks

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If you did not create the file, then you may have parasites, or you are
using a web accelerator program that would be causing this problem.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
