Seagate SATA Hard Drive Problem

Well I already have an idea what the problem is but I
thought I'd see what others may think.. A couple of days
ago I noticed incredibly slow performance from my hard
drive.. the problem has subsequently worsened.. I did a
chkdsk on it and it found nothing out of the ordinary.. I
ran a virus check (norton) and it was found to be virus-
free.. I then looked at the event system log and found a
the following WARNING.. An error was detected on device
\Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation. and just
tonight after booting up, which took several minutes, I
found that same event happening 123 times in a period of 3
minutes.. some of the other things include a missing icon
(shows up as a general shortcut icon) on my desktop for
the game Planetside.. It opens up ok but of course very
slowly.. I repaired the program and the icon came back
but went away again after a reboot.. The SATA data cable
seems to be a little flaky.. but they all seem to be that
way.. i jiggled it a little bit but don't think that it's
the problem.. Any help would be appreciated.. Synopsis
is a very slow hard drive and system event log hard drive
warning 123 times in 3 minutes.. =(

Hi,

I would suggest you to use the seagate disk diagnostic
tools for a complete scan of disk errors. The XP chkdsk
may not found and fix the problems. Bad sectors on HD may
be the symthom for a slow and mal-function OS. Backup
your important data files for just in case - HD crash.
