SCSI removal disk management/dynamic disks

I just acquired a MicroNet chassis that houses two 36.4GB SCSI disks in
hot-swap trays. I use this unit for backup up. Each day I take home one of
the drives. However, when I bring back the previous tray from home, and
insert it, I cannot read some of the folders. I get a diagnostic stating
that they are inaccessible or corrupted, but I doubt that is really the
case. Rather, I am probably just managing my disks incorrectly.

When I remove a disk to take home, should I be doing something first, in
Disk Management or elsewhere? When I reinsert a disk brought back from home,
what should I be doing? I tried rebooting (which I don't think should be
necessary) and it didn't help. I know little of 'dynamic disks' and the
like. I see messages about 'missig volumes' but don't know what to do about
it. Please help.

I have read through the documentation and still cannot find the answer I
need. I know I must sound like a lamer, but I have been working with
computers for years...I just cannot figure this out.

Here's a specific example: I placed one disk/tray in my Micronet dock, and
wrote a few files to it. Next, I removed it and refreshed everything. A few
minutes later, I reinserted the drive in the dock and rescanned Device
Manager and Computer Management. The drive showed up, but now when I go to
Disk Management, it shows a Dynamic Disk of 4GB (which is correct) that is
'Unallocated'.

I cannot find a means of assigning a drive letter and regaining access to my
data. If I right click on the disk, my only available options seem to be New
Volume and Properties. New Volume appears to require a format that erases
all data on the drive. Surely there must be a means of accessing my data. I
cannot believe that once the drive is removed from the dock, there is no
means of later accessing the data. Obviously, I am making a rookie mistake
which should be obvious, but it is not.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong in terms of accessing my data?
Some of you guys must do this all the time, and know *exactly* how it works.
PLEASE enlighten me. Thanks in advance.
