Scrolling problem in IE 6

When using the vertical scroll bar to scroll back up the page...works fine until the mouse is released, at which point the browser jumps back down to the bottom of the page. Only happens on some web pages, not all. Occurs on both a Win2K and a Win98 machine

When this does happen, it is still possible to scroll up the page using the arrow keys without any problems.

Sorry, no fix to offer, but I have noticed the same thing
on just one site: the web page that I can use to compose e-
mail when not at home. There are two windows: one for
composing the message, and another below it that shows the
original message if I'm composing a reply. When I try to
scroll around to review whether my reply addresses all
issues in the original message, I get the weird scroll
thing as you described.

This is a problem that has been introduced by the Windows Update 824145.
Microsoft are aware of the problem and are working on a solution which is
supposed to come out some time next month, I believe!?

It was supposed to be a new feature that is to be used in IE6 whereby the
further away from the vertical scroll bar slider you clicked, the further
the jump.

You have the following options:

1 - Uninstall the update 824145, but you are then open to the security issue
it fixed.
2 - Live with it and wait for the fix by MS.
3 - Live with it by either scrolling via the wheel on a wheel mouse (if you
have one), or use the vertical scroll bar, but click just under the slider
bar. This will then only go down by one page.

Hope this helps,
Martin
