Screensaver missing

H

Hans Näslund

I happened to download a screensaver programme from
www.popularscreensavers.com, but I quickly realised that I did not want to
use, so I uninstalled it.

Unfortunately, this has had the effect that my standard Windows screensaver
has ceased to work. I prefer to have the screensaver set to "Nothing", which
gives a blank screen, and that is the one that has vanished. The other
options work as normal, but not this one.

Any hints what I could do about it? Where do I find the screensaver
programme in Windows, and the settings? (I don't mean the settings under the
Control Panel.)

The screen saver which simply blanks the screen is called "Default Screen
Saver". The entry labeled "(None)" means no screen saver is wanted. Win
2000 does not have an entry labeled "Nothing".

Yes - but where do I find the default screen saver? As I said, it has
diappeared from my system.

And the option None (in the Swedish version of Win2000 called Inget, meaning
Nothing/None), which used to start the default screen saver, does not do
that any more.

Which is my problem.

The option "None" should not have started anything, since that's what's
used when you don't want any screen saver. If it actaully started
something before, the Swedish version is too differnet from the English
version for me to be of any help. That seems unlikely, though.

The default screen saver is scrnsave.scr and is normally found in
\WINNT\system32. If this file is missing from your system, you may be
able to get a new copy from your Windows CD or copy it from another
system.
