screen size if wrong after virus problem

Hi,
My boyfriends pc had a huge amount of virus's which I have now been able to
clear and everything is running fine.
The problem is that since the virus the screen size, the icons, the start
bar are all way to big. When an internet page is open he has to use the
scroll bar from side to side as the page is so big.
Sorry if this is a basic question but I just cant figure out how to get it
back to normal.
Thanks.

Right click on an empty area of the desktop.
Click "Properties" in the popup menu.
Click the "Settings" tab.
Move the "Screen Resolution" slider one notch to the right.
Click "Apply".

If that doesn't get all at the resolution you desire, go back and move the slider
one more notch to the right.

I have seen viruses damage settings and driver files. One other
possibiity is to remove the monitor(s) and video card from Device
Manager. Then, reboot XP and it should work on re-installing these
device and their correct drivers.

Please respond to the OP with any suggestion/resolution, not others that have
responded to the OP. I am quite aware of what viruses and the such are capable of
doing and the OP mentioned the machine has been cleaned of the viruses. Removing the
monitor in DM will not resolve the issue, uninstalling/reinstalling the video device
drivers is a possibility if the drivers have become corrupt.
