Screen Saver Settings Lost

H

Hugh

Greetings,
I have modified my desktop background to use a JPG image,
which is displayed correctly when I logout/login again.
I downloaded a program called "Picture And Sound Show",
which is a screen saver, and installed/configured it
succesfully.
However, when I reboot, although the desktop background
is what I set it to, the screen saver reverts to "None".
I can select the P&SS program from the drop-down list,
and it works OK again - but it reverts again to "None"
when I reboot.
The "Themes" tab shows "Modified Theme".
I have tried using the "Save User Settings" tweak from
Kelly's Korner, no joy...
Any assistance appreciated - this is becoming annoying..
..

Hi Hugh,

Suggestions:

Check your setting for the screensavers path.

Here are some examples:

Marine Aquarium 2.scr > rename it to > MarineAquarium2.scr

In the registry, screensaver will work correctly if it is listed as so:
c:\windows\system32\marine~1.scr

Screen Savers do not work correctly if listed as so:
""c:\windows\system32\marine aquarium 2.scr""

Hi Kelly,
I forced the program to export to an SCR file named
HUGH.SCR. I could then select this from the drop-down on
the screen saver page.
The setting was still lost after the reboot however...
So, I edited the registry and found that it was pointing
to SETIHOME.SCR (I'm running Seti@Home)... perhaps this
is wiping the setting during startup - the software runs
in the background, and is set to run at startup... an
undocumented gotcha by the looks of things!
After editing the registry, the setting to HUGH.SCR was
saved, so I'm all happy now :)
Many Thanks for the assistance!
Hugh.

Hi Hugh,

This is not a gotcha at all. Either you are running Seti@home are you
aren't:
