Screen Saver Quirk

I've set the Administrator account not to be displayed on the welcome screen (don't remember how I did this, got registry hack instructions here several months ago), and I use the three-finger-solute to bring up the login dialog when I need to login as Administrator.



Now for the quirk. While logged in as Administrator, and with the "On resume, password protect" screen saver option enabled, once the screen saver activates, the three finger solute won't bring up the login dialog, so that I can resume as Administrator, and since the Administrator account is set not to be displayed on the welcome screen, I have to login as a user that is displayed on the login screen and then log off to get the three finger solute to bring up the login dialog so I can then resume as Administrator.



Hope that make sense. Any ideas on getting the three-finger-solute to work in this mode?

In short - it won't.

It is assumed that in using it this way - you plan on selectively using the
administrator account and logging off when you are done. Therefore, you
should just set the screensaver of the local administrative user to "none"
or some ridiculous timeout.. As why would you log in as the administrator
and walk away if you have gone to the trouble of hiding it from the welcome
screen?

Hide Users from the Welcome Screen:

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList.
Note: There is a space between Windows and NT.

Add the username you wish to hide as a DWORD value. Set the value to 0
(zero). This will prevent the user from showing up on the welcome screen.
You will need to press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the logon screen to get the old
Win2K logon, to be able to logon to the account you've hidden. Adding a
username and setting the value to 1 will cause that user, such as
Administrator, to show up on the Welcome screen as well.

TweakUI Option to Remove Users from the Welcome Screen:

About/Policy/Run Group Policy Editor/User Configuration/Administrative
Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove User Name from Start Menu.

That's a pretty poor assumption. Just because an account is hidden from the
welcome screen is no reason to expect it to be used any differently than
those accounts displayed.

Does this behavior only affect the Admininistrator account, or normal user
accounts that are hidden from the welcome screen too?
