Screen Saver Error message

I have a machine that everytime the screen saver tries to
start I got the following error
Application popup: logon.scr - Application Error : The
application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).
Click on OK to terminate the application.
The screen saver does not come up but the computer is
locked. Any ideas as to what may be causing this. The
computer is Windows 2000 Pro sp3
