Screen saver and power managment problems

When I use the "My Pictures Slideshow" or any screen saver, I can't get the
power management (monitor shut down) function to work, If the screen saver
is set to go on BEFORE the monitor is to go off. If I set the screen saver
to go on AFTER the monitor power saver, the monitor turns on with the screen
saver working. Any suggestions or help in getting the power management to
work with the slideshow screen saver greatly appreciated.

Try a different screensaver to test if it's the screensaver or if something
is up with power management. Use something simple, like Blank or Flying
Windows.

Hi Sharon F,
Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have tried the flying xp screen saver and
still the power management (monitor shut down) function will not activate.
It works great on my XP-Pro Dell Lap top with virtually the same settings. I
have not tried the blank one, any ideas? I use a 18 inch LCD using the GE
force ti 4200 128mg card

It doesn't matter that it works fine on the laptop with the same settings.
That laptop has different BIOS, different hardware, different drivers and
probably a slightly different assortment of programs running in the
background. The manufacturers are usually very thorough when making power
management work on laptops. Probably because they will often be running on
a limited power supply (battery).

For the desktop: Flying Windows and blank are pretty basic screensavers
(they don't use 3D or openGL). So, you've eliminated the screensaver as
the cause of the problem.

Normally, I would say start looking for driver updates and testing
different combinations of background programs. However in this case it
sounds like you might be up against the monitor's implementation of
standby. Some of the LCD's have their own builtin power management and this
can supercede the settings in the operating system. May want to check the
manual or tech sheets on your monitor to see if it falls into this
category.
