Screen Resolution Problems

When I change my screen resolution < 1200 x 1600 the viewable screen size
shrinks, so that I have an equal amount of black all around the screen. If I
play a game that has a pre-specified resolution, the game window has the same
issue. The actual size of the icons and text in the viewable window doesn't
change, it is just as if the screen is shrunk. Any ideas?

Preferred Resolutions are:

14" CRT Monitor - 640x480
15" CRT Monitor - 800x600
17" CRT Monitor - 1024x768

See your monitor manual for perfect resolution. However, a 17" TFT LCD
Monitor will display 1280x1024.

you are setting a large resolution on a small monitor or your monitor
doesn't support that resolution properly that is why you are getting blank
area on both sides.

If your monitor can support that resolution then try changing the Refresh
Rate. Goto Advanced adpater properties with in from the Display Properties.

Hope this is what you are looking for, let us know!

You could also try changing the DPI settings for your monitor, Control Panel
(Classic View), Display, Settings, Advanced, DPI setting:, Custom setting...,
left click the mouse on the ruler and while holding down the left button drag
it to a higher or lower setting. My default is 96 DPI, I raise it on a larger
monitor, you may need to decrease it.

Those suggestions didn't work. I do remember that this only became a problem
after I updated my BIOS, but I don't really know what to check or fix. as
far as preferred resolutions, I used to be able to pick whatever resolution I
wanted, and the whole screen would be utilized, but if it was a bad choice,
everything would be blurry. Now, whenever I choose a smaller resolution,
text and icons and everything just gets smaller. Changing the refresh rate
(from 60 to 61 hz) only slowed things down.
