Screen image too wide

My screen image is disappearing off the right side of the screen. I am losing
the alst 1/3 of all images so can't read Word docs, emails, web pages. My
tools bar / clock at the bottom is off the screen (arrow is there and I can
bring up most temporarily if I click on the arrow (but not the clock). Can't
get the down arrow on web pages or any of the top bottons to minimise/close.
I have checked screen resoultion and its 1024X768. Have checked Help and cant
find a solution to the problem. I recently downloaded the last 52 updates
from Microsoft! But that was afew days ago and this problem appeared
yesterday.

I just changed my resolution to 960X600 and can now see the whole screen but
all images are sort of elongated.

Ever thought of manually adjusting the monitor settings so that the video
image fits on the screen? That is, whilst the screen resolution has been
set to 1024 x 768, the display itself might be under-scanning, that is
the horizontal setting is now less than 768 pixels (e.g., 512 pixels),
with the image continuing off the screen (i.e., off the scanned area).
And one needs to be careful at what is being updated from Microsoft or
any other vendor site. It is the user's responsibility to determine whether
the updated file is suitable or not suitable for the particular system.

Phase; Frequency seem to be the appropriate menu choices; there is also an
Auto button but not sure whats that for....

Set it to 800x600.

Unless you have a widescreen monitor, you want a 4:3 ratio.

Is it LCD or CRT?

Sorry...what you need to do is adjust the monitor manually, via the control
buttons or settings on the monitor itself. Since the original posts says that
the picture is off to the
edge, then the adjustment will be to the
horizontal setting (and, possibly, centering as well. There might be an all-
purpose reset button on the monitor itself (see the manual).

But there seems to be other issues. The next important thing to do is to
get out the monitor manual and note what are its native specifications.
The two most important are (1) screen resolution and (2) refresh rate.
These need to be matched up in the Windows Control Panel>>>Display settings.
The location for screen resolution is obvious. For the refresh rate, one
needs to go into the Advanced settings via its button and then to Monitor.
For example, if the manual says that the specifications are 1024 x 768 for
resolution and 72 MHz for refresh rate, then these are the settings to use,
especially for LCD (or flat-screen) monitors. Hope this is helpful.
