Screen distortion - vertical line pattern

Several times an hour, the lower third of my Outlook 2003 screen suddently
gets covered with close-together vertical lines the entire width of the
screen. Minimizing and then maximizing Outlook clears the problem. But is
this a known issue, and how can I make it go away? Doesn't happen with any
other Office programs (or any other programs of any type, for that matter).
I could post a screen shot somewhere if that would help.

it's not an outlook problem - it's your video card drivers - check for new
ones. That it only shows up in outlook and a refresh of the screen fixes it
is because outlook is in focus more often and uses more resources when in
focus.
