Scheduler no longer working

G

Greg

After installing latest XP critical updates, Antispyware
scheduled scans no longer run. Prior to applying the
updates, I upgraded to the latest beta version of
Antispyware and schedules scans ran just fine. Any ideas
as to how to get these scans to run again? I've deleted
the schedule and re-added it, but still nothing.

By Bill Sanderson:

I've dug into this bug, as follows:

Users in locales where the default clock is a 24 hour format will find that
they cannot set scheduled scan times in the afternoon.

This can be worked around by selecting a time format which uses 12 hour
format rather than 24 hour.

This is on the Time tab, and a working format is: h:mm:ss tt

A non-working format is: any of the choices with a CAPITAL H at the
beginning.

This isn't my discovery, it was posted by others here, but I've done some
testing:

1) I set my language to English (United Kingdom) afternoon settings failed
(default time is 24 hour.) Reset time to 12 hour, and afternoon settings
worked.

2) I set my language to English (United States) Default time setting is 12
hour. Scheduling scans in the afternoon works fine. Change just the time
settings to a 24 hour choice, and you can no longer set up a scheduled
scanin the afternoon.

This bug appears to me to be new in build 614.

I haven't seen this, but I also haven't needed to observe scheduled scans.
I will try to remember to check a few 24-hour machines as I look at them.

In general, except for the bug Andre mentions, build 614 should be better,
in terms of the scheduler,

Can you try and update/repair and see whether that helps?

What's the schedule you are using?

I'm already using build 614, but haven't tried re-
installing it after the recent XP updates - I'll do
that. I have daily scans scheduled for 5 am.

The update process is functionally different from uninstalling and
reinstalling--do the update (which doesn't, in fact, appear to "update"
anything!)

Is an administrator logged into the machine at 5 am?

The 7x24 machines I've observed are all continuing to scan at 2 am as
scheduled.

An administrator account is logged onto the machine at
all times. I did the update as you suggested, and the
scan ran at the next scheduled time. Seems to me the XP
critical updates might have overwritten a file used by
Antispyware. Latest updates applied (july 12):
KB890830, KB901214, KB903235).

I've applied all those patches to every machine I have control of, so I
don't think that's the issue. I think more likely this is some form of
corruption with Microsoft Antispyware--perhaps in the file recording the
schedule settings.

At any rate, glad it is fixed!
