Scheduled Task Not appearing on the Desktop

I'm trying to setup a scheduled task on a Windows 2000
Professional Workstation with Service Pack4. I've already
setup a similar task on other workstations and it works
fine. On this workstation when you Add a Scheduled Task,
it does not run. When you click on the task and Run Now,
the Scheduled Tasks indicates that it is running, but the
application (IExplore.exe) does not appear. If you open
the Task Manager and view the Processes Tab, IExplore.exe
appears as a process, but does not appear on the
Application Tab. The Task Scheduler is set to start with
the Local System Account and the check box to interact
with the desktop is checked. I have the same type of
problem with any Scheduled Task Application, not just with
IE. The user name and password are correct.

Any Ideas? Thanks for your time.

Hi Alan,
You indicated that you've already checked username and password - this is
the most common reason for scheduled tasks to fail. Be absolutely sure about
the username and password, and make sure that the username is for a local
account on this client machine (one with administrative rights, preferably
Administrator).

Here's another possibility:

Hi Alan/David,

I have exactly the same problem after installing service pack 4. 2 PC's work
fine and tasks schedule OK but the third schedules and runs the tasks but in
background - there is no user interface.

I have also tried a simple schedule of the calculator and the same thing
happens.

I have also checked the same things as you Alan - interact with desktop
etc - I am logged on as Administrator but still no luck.

Any further ideas David?

Thanks
Another Alan

Hi Alan,

Just a quick query re the odd machine - is it runnung the same verion of
Internet Explorer - it's just I noticed that the 2 machines that work ok
have OEM verions from an ISP and the other has a normal version - all are
version 6 by the way. Don't know if this may be a problem or not

Alan
