Schedualed Task Problems

I am tring to setup a batch file to run on a workstation overnight. I am
using the task schedualer to accomplisth this. It is a simple batch file,
nothing special. I setup the task to run at 12:00am every night, enter my
username/password (I am a domain admin) and test the task by right clicking
and selecting RUN. This works fine.
I then LOGOFF the box and let it sit.


However when I check the task results in the morning, the task did not run
and has a result code of 0x80. It appears that the task will not run when Im
logged off the box. If I logon and run the task manually it will work. Does
anyone know why this task does not work!!!???

Here are the obvious questions:

When you right click the icon for this job and select Properties,
is the box next to "Run only if logged on" unchecked?

Is the machine allowed to go into standby? If so, have you
checked the box next to "Wake the computer to run this task" on
the Settings page?

What's entered in the Scheduled Task log (Advanced -> View log or
C:\Windows\SchedLgU.txt) with respect to this job? What errror
code was generated?

Why not test this task by scheduling it to run in a few minutes,
stay logged on and see what happens? You can always stop the task
manually. If successful, follow the same procedure except this
time logoff. If it doesn't run check the log and see what error
code was generated.

I did try exactly what you just explained. I did this before posting the
question on the newsgroup.

The task will run when the user is logged on. The "Run only if logged on"
box is UNCHECKED. The computer does not go into stand by. If i right click
the task and select run, it will run. If i set the task to run in several
minutes, then logoff the task will not run. I am getting status/error code
0x80 from the log file. That's all it says

"Schedualed Task Test completed with exit code 0x80" (<-- Directly from log
file)

Any ideas why i cannot run the task while there is no user logged on ????

FYI, I can't recreate the problem you're having. I won't bore you
with the details but when I follow the same steps on my XP Pro
machine the task runs. This is frustrating because you're doing
all the right things and it should work.

The only references that I can find on the net suggest that it
was a problem that was fixed with SP2. Is the workstation running
SP2? Look here for a reference:
