Schannel error (help)

I am unable to access secure (https) web sites. In the event viewer I found
the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Schannel
Event Category: None
Event ID: 36865
.....
Description:
A faral error occured while opening the system DSS crytographic module.
Operations that require the SSl or TLS crytographic protocals will not work
correctly. The error code is 0x80090006.

Any ideas how to correct this?

FYI, I got this working again. I ended up running the System File Checker
([Start] [Run] sfc /scannow)
