Scanner problem

Hi there,

I have a HP Scanjet 5100C installed on Windows XP pc via parallel cable.
I'm using the the built in XP scanning wizard, and not the HP scanning
software that was supplied.

The problem I am having is that for a while (usually about two weeks) the
scanner works fine, then I start to get multi-coloured distorted images.
When the scanner is re-installed, XP finds it as a 'new scsi card' and
doesn't recognise it as a scanner at all. To make matters worse, the HP
scanning software throws my machine into a loop whereby it boots up and
then shuts down, so I have to get in and remove the software vis safe mode!

Has anybody had similar problems.

Thanks in advance.

I have an HP5200c connected to my new Xp computer but it's connected
with a USB cable. I downloaded the latest XP drivers for it from the HP
site. It's been working perfectly since I set it up.
