Scanner Not Acquiring

I have a Compaq A3000, and the scanner suddenly stopped working...I thought
the scanner just died, because I use it a lot, so I went out and got a new
HP Scanjet 3970...Same thing happened, it isn't acquiring with HP software,
Xnview or Paint Shop Pro...But I could get the it to scan through the
Control Panel...

I decided to hook up the Compaq to another XP machine and it worked
fine...All the USB ports work fine with all my other peripherals, so it
seems like it's the one machine that won't recognize a scanner...

Anyone know what it could be?

Reinstall your scanner software, including the Windows XP drivers.
