Scanner dust

I have a film scanner, a Minolta Dimage Scan MultiPRO, which has been
sitting on a dusty shelf for a long time. I should have made a plastic
cover to put around it, but didn't think of it.

How likely is it that dust will have settled on the lens elements, or I
suppose, only on the top lens element? And inside? And are these
cleanable?

I remember seeing someplace on the web a company that makes custom
covers. I should have invested (or asked my wife to make one with her
fancy sewing machine).

Why not try the scanner is see if the image quality has deteriorated? If
not, then cover the scanner with a pillow case or other object.
