Scanner driver not found but is working

I have just installed XP w/ service pack 1.
In the process, I have an adaptec 2940 SCSI controller
running some zip drives and a Nikon AX-110 scanner.
I downloaded drivers from the WEB, and the scanner seems
to be working with them.

The problem is that when I log-in, Windows thinks that
new hardware is found. I can get out of the message by
cancelling 4 times.

Is there a way for me to get windows to recognize the
scanner properly.

The driver is an old driver, and does not have the
features that XP PRo is looking for

As a first attempt, simple solution, try leaving the scanner powered up at
all times - even when XP is shut down.
